La incidencia del cáncer de próstata presenta diferencias regionales, probablemente debidas a diferencias en la exposición a factores de riesgo. Varios estudios han relacionado el riesgo de cáncer de próstata con diversos factores, los cuales cumplen un papel importante en la etiopatogenia, estos incluyen factores nutricionales, ambientales y constitucionales. Los efectos pueden manifestarse a través de varios mecanismos que incluyen inflamación, desregulación de hormonas sexuales y supresión del sistema inmune. Se realiza una revisión descriptiva de los principales mecanismos moleculares y sus efectos en la carcinogénesis de próstata.
