Abstract

For several months we have heard in different media about the El Niño Phenomenon. Will it happen? How long will it last? How will it affect the goals of the ODS? These are some of the questions that academics and scientists from all branches of knowledge ask. El Niño is not something new as society, we have already experienced it. Although some people are not interested, others deny it, others do not care, and others worry, it is a fact that it is here, and we must face it. In economic terms, El Niño affects the agricultural sector more than other sectors, this is because the rainwater deficit situation generates an increase in production costs, a reduction in yields and even the loss of crops. This document analyzes from the economic sphere the effects of the El Niño Phenomenon in Colombia, especially in the agricultural sector, and how it influences other variables that result in effects in the short and medium term for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially for the end of poverty, zero hunger, health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, reducing inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, climate action, underwater life, and life on land ecosystems.
