Breast and prostate cancers, among others, are becoming increasingly common in Costa Rica, emerging as leading causes of death in the population. The objective of this study was to compile literature on Phyllanthus acuminatus as an alternative treatment for cancer and other conditions. A review of scientific literature from various sources was conducted, focusing on the characterization of metabolic components found in different parts of the tree. The study aimed to identify promising results that would scientifically demonstrate the potential of Phyllanthus acuminatus as a cancer treatment alternative, as well as explore other uses and the management of the species. The literature review revealed that 57.1% of the studies focused on characterizing the phyllanthosides in the roots, while 42.9% examined metabolic compounds found in other parts of the plant. The research yielded promising results highlighting the species' potential as an alternative treatment for cancer and even other human diseases, such as hepatitis C.
