Abstract

This document aims to review the importance of the Parque Metropolitano de Guadalajara (PMG) and its contribution of ecosystem services, making it a key player in urban resilience. It defines the park using the concept of green infrastructure and analyzes the correspondence between observed realities and green infrastructure concepts. The goal is to provide an overview of the importance of living soils and green infrastructure as fundamental pillars for urban resilience and the sustainability of a city represented by the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (ZMG). The importance of restoring soil microbial and organic biodiversity, water regulation, improved carbon sequestration, and temperature regulation is highlighted. By observing the practices carried out in this park, the tension between the intensive social use of public spaces and the need to preserve their ecological functionality is examined. To guarantee the resilience of the space in the face of climate change and urbanization, a shift towards regenerative planning is necessary. Through landscape design and planning, the space and time interactions of the socio-ecological processes that take place in the park can be intentionally addressed.
