Abstract

It was determined the frequency of mastitis and the presence of etiological agents associated in stables with different level of technification in Los Altos de Jalisco. Were sampled 1,101 functional quarters of 278 cows belonging to 22 stables. It was used the California test for diagnosis of mastitis and was identified genusand species bacterial by the characteristics own of the colony, Gram stain and biochemical tests. To identify the level technological of the stables applied detailed survey being classified in: Technified, semi-technified and "family dairy". A frequency was obtained of mastitis per cow of 67.3% of which clinical mastitis represented 7.2% and subclinical mastitis 60.1%. Of the total quarters sampled was obtained a mastitis frequency of 40.9%, corresponding to 2.3% to clinical mastitis and 38.6% to subclinical mastitis.

In culture Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci and Streptococcus spp, decreased frequency while raising the level of technification. The genus Corynebacterium showed a greater presence to a greater degree of technification.

The distribution of mastitis in stables with different levels of technification was notorious, obtaining a smaller proportion of mastitis in technified stables and a higher frequency of mastitis clinic in stables classified as "family dairy".

The type of stables "Family dairy", presented the major problems of mastitis caused by a poor milking technique, presenting the highest frequency of etiological agents as well as grades of higher mastitis.

Technified stables showed greater control of bacterial agents, mainly of Staphylococcus aureus, since they presented minimum frequencies or null as well as a lower percentage of mastitis.
